The statue modeled after the Roman Goddess, Libertas, was proposed to embody the spirit of freedom, democracy, and liberty, the quintessential ideals of America. The monument was designed and sculpted within France and shipped to the United States as an acknowledgment that their newly formed ideas were supported. Since its official dedication on October 28th, 1886, the Statue of Liberty stands tall as a beacon of hope to the rest of the world, as the entry point to the land of opportunity.
