This coin is the first bullion 10 ounce silver coin released by the Royal Mint, and the first in a series of 10 coins.
Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953 was watched over by 10 heraldic beasts, re-imagined here as the first in a series of 10 designs. The Queen's Beasts were created to represent the various branches of royal genealogy over the centuries. The lion first appeared around 1189 on the royal seal of King Richard I, later known as King Richard the Lionheart.
Unusually, both sides of this coin were executed by Jody Clark, an engraver at the Royal Mint. His effigy of the Queen is the only fifth to have graced British coins since 1953.
The Royal Mint is internationally recognized as one of the most prestigious and highly acclaimed mints in the world with a history of over 1100 years. The Royal Mint produces original coin collections, investment-grade bullion, as well as currency for over 60 countries including the United Kingdom.
